If you’re going backpacking or camping by yourself, consider getting an ultralight shelter that only weighs 1-2 pounds. Family camping tents can weigh from 10 to 20 pounds.
Lighter camping tents can be more convenient to carry around, but may sacrifice important features. Ultralight tents (those in the 4-5 pound range) don’t have as many zippers, fewer and lighter poles as well as smaller vestibules and rain flies. I want to stress how durable this tent is and how well it keeps you protected from outside weather. With the rain fly used, the tent is impervious to outside weather conditions. You can be assured you’ll be safe and comfortable in your Mountain Hardwear Hammerhead 3 tent. You’ll probably feel bad for the other campers around you who are cold and wet in thier flimsy tents that look like they are about to snap in half. You can hang out comfortably in the tent without a coat, even in freezing/rainy/windy weather. It is no surprise that the Mountain Hardwear Hammerhead 3 tent is 100% water-proof. In really wet conditions, you can be sure that you’ll remain dry. It also prevents condensation and dew from creeping inside the tent.
Besides having excellent versatility, the Mountain Hardwear Hammerhead 3 tent is extremely roomy. You’ll notice that it has a good amount of headroom. This is convenient for changing or shifting around in your tent as well as storing your gear inside. However, the roominess comes at the cost of additional weight. The tent is about 9 lbs, almost twice the weight of super light tents such as the MSR Hubba Hubba HP tent or the Big Agnes Copper Spur UL3 tent. However, you must give up lighter weight for more protection and durability and more room.
If you’re looking for a tent that is as heavy duty as it is spacious, look no further. If you don’t care about a little extra weight, then this tent is an excellent choice for you.
