How to Make Soda Pop – The Easy Way and the Hard Way
Contrary to what the big name soda makers would like you to believe, it is actually very easy to learn how to make soda pop. Making your own soda at home can be a fun exercise for your family and a money saver for your budget. Let’s see the steps to creating soda pop.
First the difficult way. Well, it is in reality not that hard, just a little time consuming. I am going to tell you the basic process. You’ll find detailed recipes elsewhere on the net. The fundamental method is as follows:
For starters, sprinkle a packet of yeast into some warm, but not hot water. Let the yeast sit for a few minutes in the warm water until it starts to bubble a tiny bit. This yeast will subsequently be used to carbonate your soda pop.
The next step is to prepare your mixture. Do this by dissolving a cup of sugar in water and then add your flavoring of choice. You can boil the mixture as a way to quickly dissolve the sugar. Should you choose to boil it make certain that it cools down before continuing to the next step. Pour the mixture into a bottle.
Add the yeast, seal the bottle and leave it for a few days. This is an important part of the procedure. As the yeast feeds on the sugar it’s going to produce carbon dioxide (and a little alcohol) as a byproduct. As soon as the volume of carbon dioxide increases the soda will become fizzy. It is recommended that you check after a couple of days and release some pressure in order to prevent an explosive, sticky mess. In 2-3 days you could chill and drink your great tasting soda.
Now to the easy method. You’ll be able to bring the whole process of several days into a few seconds by using a soda maker machine. It is the quickest way to get tasty soda right at home. You’ll find that there are a number of brands out there however they all work in much the same way. With your machine you will be given a reusable soda bottle, the machine and a refillable CO2 canister.
The main advantage of a soda maker machine is the fact that it reduces the entire procedure above right down to a couple of seconds. The first step is to fill up the soda bottle with tap water. After that, you insert the bottle in the machine and push the big button on the top several times. This will inject carbonation into the soda bottle making it nice and fizzy. Finally, you remove the bottle and add your own flavoring. Or you can leave out the flavoring and just consume it as plain seltzer water.
You can use any of the methods to make your soda. In the first approach, if you put in enough sugar and let it sit for enough time, the soda pop can in fact turn very alcoholic over time. If you like to drink soda in large amounts or have a large family who likes to drink soda on a daily basis then it’s wise to acquire a soda maker machine. You won’t just be making a great tasting drink but will also cut costs and conserve the environment since you will not be contributing to the countless use of plastic bottles.
